Brunei officially gained its independence in only 1984
although the Monarchy here has a rich and fascinating
600 year history. Ruled over by Hassanal Bolkiah
Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan,
he is the 29th Sultan of Brunei.
Tropical rainforest covers 80% of the country which
consists of two unconnected parts. 97% of the population
lives in the larger western part, while only about
10,000 live in the mountainous eastern part.
