Sabah
is a Malaysian state located on the northern portion of
the island of Borneo. It is the second largest state in
Malaysia after the state of Sarawak which it borders
with on its south-west. It also borders with the
province of East Kalimantan of Indonesia in the south
and Brunei in the south west.
Sabah used to be a British crown colony known as North
Borneo prior to partnership with the Federation of
Malaya, Sarawak and Singapore to form the Federation of
Malaysia in 1963. Its state capital is Kota Kinabalu,
formerly known as Jesselton.
Sabah
is sometimes known as Sabah, negeri di bawah bayu;
"Land Below The Wind" and also the
"Land Of The
Sacred Mountain". |
 |
 |
Sabah's population is
heterogeneous and culturally diverse, with more than 30
different ethnic races and over 80 local dialects spoken.
Traditions and customs have long been part of daily
life. Sabah is a land of varied landscapes and natural wonders. All the ethnic groups live together
harmoniously
while at the same time preserving their own culture, traditions,
festivals and customs to make Sabah a multi-cultural, exotic
experience unlike any other that you might have already
experienced. |
